Tidepools

Due to the really low tide yesterday, we checked out the tidepools at Golden Gardens.  We saw lots of cool sea creatures.

Seattle

We started off the weekend visiting the tide pools at Golden Gardens.  There was a very low tide so it was a very successful trip.  We saw lots of sea life, and found pretty seashells.   Afterwards we visited my husband's new office building (Amazon just moved) and then toured around for awhile.  Even though it was a really gray and rainy day, I couldn't help but notice how colorful Seattle is, despite the weather.

And we saw my favorite door, although it was open so you can't see the cool painting on the other side of the curtains...

Even the Fremont statues were sporting some color...

Afterwards we went to Blue Moon Burgers for a late lunch, and now we are home and relaxing.

   

Not Your Everyday Hero

There is a guy over at GroceryCouponGuide.com who has been doing a challenge all month to Eat Well on $1 a Day.  He's using sales and coupons to accomplish his task, and everyday I've been waiting to see his latest blog post on how he's done, what he's bought, and what he's eating.  It's actually inspired me to be a better shopper and start using coupons once I realized how much money I've been wasting.

At this point he's bought over $500 worth of groceries for just a little over $20.00.  And that includes fresh fruit and vegetables.  But what's really amazing is how much he has been donating to the food bank during this whole process, including 32 boxes of cereal.

Today, however, he completely won me over with this blog post.  If you have a chance to read it, you should.  It will make you feel better about humanity.

Also, we went on a road trip this weekend and I have about 1000 pictures from it.  Hope to go through some of those today in between loads of laundry. 

Museum of Flight

Last weekend some friends invited us to join them at the Museum of Flight.

They have everything there from a replica of the space station to Amelia Earhart memorablia.

My daughter was more of a space junkie...

while my son just wanted to fly jets...

 
I loved checking out the old planes...

Like this one with the really cool seats.  They traveled in style back then.

We visited the Concord (really cramped and clausterphobic), went on Flight Simulators, and checked out a Blue Angel's plane.  But my favorite part of the day was visiting Air Force One.

This plane was used for several Presidents (Eisenhower, Johnson, Kennedy and Nixon).  According to the guide it was Jackie Kennedy herself who picked out the plane's colors.

Staff seats in the back, and the President's chair closer to the front...

You have to wonder how many important calls were made from this phone...

It was fun seeing how much "technology" they had back then...

and their luxury items of course...

 
But my favorite part of seeing Air Force One was this Doggie Door...

  
   
 

Steampunk Inspiration Day 2

One of our favorite places to visit is the old train depot in Issaquah.  It looks exactly as it would if you had walked in 100 years ago.

 
I love the old machines like this ticket cutter...

and I guess you can't have a steam engine without steam..

Inside there is a ladies waiting room and a gentlemen's waiting room, because it wasn't proper for them to wait for a train together...

 
I love this sign so much I now have a photo of it hanging in our entryway...

Steampunk Inspiration

I have a confession to make...I am a bit of a geek.  I love everything Steampunk.  You know the whole Jules Verne, Victiorian, sci-fi, alternative universe, technical gadget, goggle, gears, and zepplin loving Steampunk.   My goal is to convert our downstairs computer room into a Sherlock Holmes meets Spiderwick study.  Thankfully not only is my husband very supportive, he's also very handy making things.  I'd thought I'd share my progress here on my blog.

First up though is coming up with some ideas for my new place.  I found a surprising source of inspiration at the Woodland Park Zoo.  They kind of get the whole Steampunk Explorer - Adventurer - Naturalist vibe.

They had this tent set up which looks like something straight from Out of Africa.

 
Inside were terrariums and animals skulls...

Old books and camera lenses... my kind of place...

Next blog post I will talk about another source of inspiration we found (hint..it's an old train station).
