Since I started making a December Daily in 2009, I've been reserving one day for the Christmas Tree. And each year I've tried to come up with a new tree design. One year was crepe paper, one year was laser cut chipboard.
This year, inspired by some quilling designs I saw on Pinterest I made a tree out of strips of paper.
I have to say, it was a much easier and quicker project than I was expecting. I just rolled up the strips and glued them down with plain old Elmer's glue.
I used another Journal Your Christmas prompt and made a page about our traditions for Christmas. No. 1 on the list is watching the movie White Christmas. When my mom was growing up, her family had a lake cabin next to Bing Crosby. He always told them his favorite actress to work with was Rosemary Clooney, and I always remember that when I'm watching the movie and the scenes the two of them together. On the opposite page I used Kitschy Christmas Journaling by Sahlin Studio to list some more of our traditions.
I've gotten a few emails with questions about what I've been using on my December Daily.
The most asked question is what font I've been using.
The other question I've been asked a lot is where I bought the calendar I used on Day 5. I made the calendar myself in Photoshop. I'm including a blank version here. The calendar measures 6 inches across (to fit in my December Daily). If you want one that hasn't been resized by typepad, please feel free to email me, and I can email it to you.
The other question is where I got the Santa paper I used on Day 1. I made it using this kit by SherrieJD.
Got to have a lunch date with my husband today. He works in downtown Seattle so I drove down to meet him. We had fun walking around and seeing the sights. We both had cameras with us, and he let me use a few of his pictures for my album.
My plans changed a bit today. We have a lot of family coming over this weekend so I was trying to clean house and do laundry, when our power went out all afternoon. So instead I tried to organize in other ways like making some lists for Christmas.
I used a picture I already had on hand of my art supply closet.
It's become something of a tradition for us to go look at store windows during the Christmas season to see how they have decorated. So today my pages are about our "annual" trip to the mall, and my favorite holiday windows.
I made my own window using my Silhouette (an early Christmas gift from my hubby) and a transparency that I ran through my printer.
The opposite page is about my all time favorite store window... Tiffanys. Last year they did a bluebird, and this year it was all about carousels with that Tiffany blue background. I have to add that my husband was nice enough to take all of these pictures for me. I'm lucky he understands my obsession with store windows.
Here's a few more photos from our night out...
The mall (not too crowded but it was late in the day)...
More shots of Nordstroms. They had the same bird theme last year but they changed it up a bit.
Pottery Barn (I resited temptation to go inside)...
I'm not sure of the name of this luggage store..
After that we went home and took it easy. Back tomorrow with Day 7.
I followed another one of Shimelle's Journal Your Christmas prompts today, and made a "Christmas Countdown." It's sort of a quick and easy page with a calendar on one side and some flyers for local events on the other.
I followed Shimelle's Journal Your Christmas prompt today for what makes a perfect day for you. For us it's all about staying home and hanging out. I included a full page picture of my daughter because she was recently hospitalized for a week and we are so grateful and happy to have her home with us, that it really makes it the perfect day.
