Today was my book club get-together and our read this month was "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle" by Barbara Kingsolver.
The book is about one family's year long experiment to grow their own food and eat locally. It was only natural that we would have our book club gatherining at my good friend's house becuase she is not only a great cook, she also has an amazing garden.
She estimated about 70% of our meal came from her garden. We had recipes that came straight out of the book which you can find here. She even made her own mozzarella cheese for the paninis.
Before we sat down to discuss the book, we took a tour of the yard. In less than a year she's turned her yard from overgrown weeds to a beautiful garden.
The huckleberries weren't quite ripe yet, but they were pretty.
After we discussed the book, we sat down to eat. The sun came out so we took our plates out on the back deck and had a wonderful afternoon.
We all agreed that in one way or another the book inspired us in some way to be more aware of the food we eat. And it was definiteley a treat to eat such fresh, delicious food.
